As can be seen in this blog, advertisements have been created to reach addicted consumers. 

Hopefully your eyes have been opened and you have a greater awareness of some of the techniques advertisers will use to reach the addicted consumers of alcohol and tobacco products.

Addicted consumers are essential to the survival of the alcohol and tobacco companies.

ALCOHOL COMPANIES:

Jean Kilbourne, Ed.D., states:

“These figures make it clear that if alcoholics were to recover - i.e., stop drinking - the alcoholic beverage industry's gross revenue would be cut in half. I can't believe that industry executives want that to happen. On the contrary, my 15-year study of alcohol advertising makes me certain that advertisers deliberately target the heavy drinker and devise ads designed to appeal to him or her. As with any product, the heavy user is the best customer. However, when the product is a drug, the heavy user is often an addict.”¹

TOBACCO COMPANIES:

Here is excerpt from a R.J. Reynolds marketing report:

“Heavy smokers tend to manifest to a still greater degree those characteristics that distinguish smokers from the rest of the general population. This means that marketing programs which key on characteristics of smokers (as opposed to universal wants) will be particularly relevant to heavy users who are valuable customers in terms of volume.”²

THE THIEF DOES NOT COME EXCEPT TO STEAL, AND TO KILL, AND TO DESTROY:

On a global scale, the “harmful use of alcohol results in approximately 2.5 million deaths each year.³

Worldwide, tobacco use causes more than 5 million deaths per year. ⁴

Currently, around 7 ½ million deaths a year is the result of alcohol abuse and tobacco use.  The amount of annual deaths for alcohol abuse and tobacco use is increasing.

ADDICTION:

If you have an addiction to alcohol and tobacco, seek help.

You won’t get help from the liquor and tobacco companies, they are only interested in profiting from your addiction.

There is one who can truly help you with addiction – Jesus Christ

Jesus says:

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

He can deal with the addiction at the source and assist with and even take away any and all addictions.

For those bound to addiction, seek help through a relationship with Jesus Christ, reading the Holy Bible, and participating in a faith-based drug and alcohol recovery program

Then, you can be free indeed.
